LT110 is an introduction to the principles and practices of technical services including cataloging and acquisitions, bindery and serials control. Topics covered during the semester include the Dewey Decimal system, Library of Congress classification system, Sears Subject Headings and LC Subject Headings, bibliographic entry searching and verification, acquisitions tools and techniques and automation of library systems. This course is required to earn an Advanced Certificate and/or the Associate of Arts in Library Technology. It is also transferable to the California State University system.
After completing this course students will be able to:
1- understand the functions of Cataloging and Acquisitions departments
2- create cataloging recording using tools such as AACR2R and MARC 21
3- use cataloging records in bibliographic utilities and local catalogs
